Serial ports are devices through which data can be transmitted. Throughout the history of development and usage of personal computers, serial ports have been used for efficient data transfer.
The college I go's Computer Lab has a eBay account in which they sell used PC's that are surplus or no longer used. I bought a Dell Optiplex 780 from them. Since I was in class today and the auction ended today just 30 minutes before class, I snagged the only bid of $40. Now all the computers in the computer lab are this model and run Windows 7. I was told that Windows 7 is native to this desktop. It came with Windows 7 Pro, but if you know me, I am all about personalization so I wiped the PC clean by deleting the partitions using GParted and installed w7 myself. It says it has all the drivers except 2. technically it needs 3. The system claims that the Video drivers are already installed, but I cannot achieved a higher resolution than 1280x1024 on a 1080p (1920x1080) monitor. The computers at the college running the same OS, same model desktop are displaying in 1080p. Mine is not however.
drivers needed:

Video Driver Hardware ID

(says it is installed but no HD or widescreen)(computers at college are)

THe serial port driver, and something else called 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' (possibly a modem on the motherboard) are listed as 'other devices' in the device manager, with yellow exclamation marks in the icons meaning they have no drivers installed.
Dell does not list any drivers on their usual website where you enter your service tag. I am pretty sure this is a standard Intel Q## chipset. Does anybody know which one exactly, and where I can get the chipset drivers and particularly, the serial port drivers, for 64 bit Windows 7?

Go to the drivers section on dell's site and enter your service tag: Hewlett-packard.
1) Install the latest chipset drivers from dell's site.2) If that doesn't work, install the latest networking drivers from dell's site.3) If that doesn't work, install the latest video card drivers from dell's site.

https://renewwelcome623.weebly.com/blog/p90x2-download-free-full-version. Go to Dell's support site and look up 745C drivers under 'Chipset'. Download the last 2 drivers and install them in your Dell driver directory under Intel PCI Driver Management. Use these to update the drivers in the Device Manager and problem fixed!

The answer is the driver: Intel AMT SOL LMS. For the Serial Port Driver. From the driver list select Windows Vista 64 for Windows 7 / Server 2008 64-Bit.
